Sedan 1870

Emperor William of Prussia announces his great victory against Napoleon III of France in 1870

39th Dispatch
from the battlefront

To Queen Augusta in Berlin

From Sedan, on September 2nd, 02:30 [a.m.] hours

The surrender of' the totally captured army has just been accepted from General Wimpfen, who was acting on behalf of the wounded Marshall MacMahon. The Emperor has only surrendered himself personally to me since he is not assuming command and is leaving everything to the regency in Paris. I shall decide upon a place for him to stay after I have spoken to him at a meeting which is to take place immediately. What a turn of events has occurred through God's guidance.

Wilhelm
